“It happened again!” Just this past week, I was told by a patient who had recently had their lower partial replaced with a fixed bridge on dental implants, “I sure wish I had done this a long time ago!”
Having the security to chew comfortably and without the aggravation of a loose partial or denture is the primary reason people seek my services with implant dentistry. In this specific case, the lower anterior teeth were replaced with a permanently cemented bridge over two implants. The procedure was simple and event free from the patients’ perspective and he experienced minimal discomfort afterwards and able to wear his partial so there was no apparent lack of teeth during the healing phase.
Their experience included the returned ability to bite and chew comfortably and a renewed confidence to speak and eat in public.
The irony is that many people are told they are too old for implants, but the truth is that many of my retired or those near retirement find that much of their social activities revolve around eating out and enjoying meals at social events and they benefit the most from improved digestion, a more varied diet, greater comfort to enjoy meals in public, and aren't too old to improve their health!
