Enjoy a pain-free dental experience with laser technology from Indianapolis Dentistry.
Many people are scared of going to the dentist, because of all of the pain they think they will have or have had in the past from other dentists, but some people love dentist offices like ours who have invested in laser dentistry that leads to:
How does Laser Dentistry work?
Just as lasers have revolutionized medical procedures such as LASIX eye surgery and skin resurfacing, they have recently become applicable and modified for many dental procedures. Lasers are manufactured in different wavelengths, and delivery means for various procedures. Dr. Quint has three different types of lasers in his practice.
The Fotona laser is a cutting-edge technology that has revolutionized dentistry by offering numerous benefits for both dentists and patients. This advanced laser system, known for its precision and versatility, has become increasingly popular in various dental procedures. Here are some of the benefits of the Fotona Laser that we are very excited to share:
Minimally Invasive: One of the primary advantages of the Fotona laser is its ability to perform precise and minimally invasive procedures. The laser energy can target specific areas with exceptional accuracy, minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissues. This means less discomfort, reduced bleeding, and faster healing times for patients.
Precise and Efficient: The Fotona laser system offers dentists exceptional control and precision during procedures. Its high level of accuracy allows for meticulous work, such as cavity preparation, gum contouring, and tissue removal. Additionally, the laser's efficiency enables faster treatment times, optimizing the overall patient experience.
Reduced Discomfort and Pain: The Fotona laser operates at specific wavelengths that are highly absorbed by water and other soft tissues in the mouth. This targeted energy absorption minimizes nerve stimulation, resulting in reduced discomfort and pain for patients during and after the procedure. Consequently, dental treatments performed with the Fotona laser are often associated with less need for anesthesia or analgesics.
Enhanced Healing and Reduced Infection Risk: The Fotona laser promotes accelerated healing and reduced infection risk. The laser's energy stimulates cellular activity, promoting tissue regeneration and faster wound healing. Additionally, the laser's high-energy light kills bacteria, reducing the risk of infection during and after dental procedures.
Versatility: The Fotona laser offers a wide range of applications in dentistry. It can be used for various procedures, including cavity preparation, gum disease treatment, soft tissue surgeries, frenectomies (removal of frenulum), biopsies, teeth whitening, and more. Its versatility allows our dentist to address multiple dental concerns using a single advanced tool.
Improved Patient Experience: Patients often experience anxiety and fear when visiting the dentist. The use of the Fotona laser can help alleviate these concerns. The laser's non-invasive nature, reduced pain, and faster recovery times contribute to a more comfortable and positive patient experience. Additionally, the precise and efficient nature of the laser system can minimize the number of appointments needed, saving patients time and reducing potential stress associated with multiple visits.
Safety and Sterilization: The Fotona laser adheres to strict safety guidelines and protocols to ensure patient safety. The laser's design allows for easy sterilization, reducing the risk of cross-contamination between patients. This feature is particularly crucial in dental practices to maintain high levels of hygiene and prevent the spread of infections.
"If you’ve been avoiding the dentist for fear of the needle and drill, or just want a dental solution that is faster and more comfortable, stop delaying your dental treatment and ask for pain-free laser dentistry or inquire about our many sedation modalities we have available from pills and gas to relax you to full IV sedation."

Decay removed and tooth treated with diode laser.
A Soft Tissue/Diode laser is used for soft tissue or gum tissue needs. It can replace the need for scalpels and incisions which allows for a more controlled healing response and surgical correction of gummy smiles, frenectomies (relief from tongue tied, such as in the case of infants having trouble breast feeding), and crown lengthening to expose healthy teeth for proper restoration. It is also appropriate for disinfecting teeth and the preparation after decayed tooth structure has been removed.
The Diagnodent laser is used to detect early decay process that would otherwise go undetected and enlarge before it could be resolved. Known as the ‘Cavity Detector’ laser, it replaces the ‘poking of teeth’ that had been the test to determine the presence of cavities.
Waterlase Laser by Biolase - This Hard Tissue (Tooth) Laser called Waterlase MD™ is the only laser that can function as an option to replace the traditional dental drill. With most people it can be comfortably used without the need for anesthetic (involving needles or shots) but it is NOT a panacea of replacement of the drill.
For initial cavity preparation, it is often the preferred method to remove decay, disinfect the residual tooth surface of contaminants, and provide a surface to allow bonding or fusion with a resin or glass (porcelain) restorative material.
Unlike needle and drill dentistry, our Biolase Waterlase MD™ laser can perform many traditional dental procedures with fewer shots, less anesthesia, and in many cases, without pain. The Biolase Waterlase uses a unique combination of laser energy and water to provide gentler, more precise treatment that conserves healthy tooth structure, and minimizes pain and discomfort. In addition, procedures that once took several appointments to complete, such as multiple fillings, can now be finished in just one visit.
The recent advent of lasers into dentistry have opened an entirely new approach to treating gum disease and performing periodontal (gum) surgery. Dr. Quint has been utilizing a Biolase Waterlase MD laser for tooth preparation and gingival treatments. This laser has a variety of extremely thin tips that can deliver laser energy into the diseased sulcus to disinfect the area of gum disease, remove smaller amounts of the diseased gum tissue, provide an atmosphere of improved healing, and offer a much less invasive and less painful recovery period. The diseased root surface is also treated by the laser energy to allow regeneration of the gum connective tissue to regrow up the root surface which has been the ‘last frontier’ of regenerative periodontal therapy. These procedures are especially indicated in smokers who heal less favorably, and suffer more from gum disease than non smokers.
"The use of Dental Lasers have proven to be very effective to eliminate the traditional and more invasive scalpel approach to gum (periodontal) surgery. We have invested in the top laser technology (Biolase Waterlase MD). It's patient friendly, minimally invasive.
