Are there hidden essential oils in your dental products? Essential oils are actually nothing new in the dental world. In fact, the common household favorite, Listerine has four essential oils for antimicrobial purposes. While Listerine has its following, we here at Indianapolis Dentistry feel that we can take health and prevention of oral and systemic diseases a step further. Ingredients such as alcohol, sodium fluoride, sodium saccharin, benzoic acid, gluten, and dyes can be found in various over the counter and professional dental products. Here at Indianapolis Dentistry we chose to eliminate these and other harmful carcinogens and unnecessary preservatives for the comfort and safety of our patients. Our preference instead, is to use a safe and highly effective alternative line of products made by The Dental Herb Company. These products, including the Under the Gums Irrigant which is used to irrigate the gingival tissues, contain pure essential oils and extracts of organically grown herbs.
For each of our patients here at Indianapolis Dentistry we take a more natural and holistic approach. One of the great services we provided is called Subgingival Irrigation, or irrigation of the gums. This process of irrigating the gingival tissues has broad benefits. Removal of debris, plaque, and harmful bacteria leads to not only a healthier mouth, decrease in bad breath, and less periodontal pocketing, but it can also lead to a healthier body. This is due to the fact that infectious bacteria located in the mouth has been known to travel systemically through the bloodstream and cause infection in other areas of the body. Removal of the infectious debris from the gingival tissues is a simple preventative step that you can take to maintain your dental and overall health.
The process of gum irrigation at our office is performed by our Licensed Dental Hygienist or our Dentist. We use a soft and pliable tip to reach below the gum line with our natural products. We then flush out the debris that is around each tooth and dental implant leaving you feeling fresh and notably healthier. If you would like to have this process preformed preventatively for yourself and your family members, or if you would like to learn if you are a candidate for the Dental Herb Company products that we carry, you are welcome to make an appointment with us by calling (317) 882-0228.
