This is a story about getting a new retainer for the first time from the point of view of one of our orthodontic patients who recently got their braces removed. After getting my braces off recently, I had to take impressions for my retainer. While impressions can be an uncomfortable procedure, my process with the matter went very smoothly. I recently wrote about my experience getting braces and what fears I had. However, there was no pain or discomfort whatsoever! The step in the whole process was to get my retainer.
The retainer is a necessary mechanism that reinforces the results of the braces after they have been taken off. I will be receiving a permanent or fixed retainer on my lower teeth. This provides the benefits of the retainer while taking away the disadvantages of taking it out during meals or snacks or losing it. My top retainer is what one would typically think of. There were so many designs and colors to choose from to personalize it.
The great thing about the retainer is that I only have to wear it at night so I do not have to worry or bother with it during the day! Thanks to Dr. Reese and his staff for making the whole orthodontic braces and retainer process a pleasant and rewarding one that not only improved my smile, but my overall health too.
